Here is how you can set up Google analytic

You need to have a Google tag manage before you can use Google analytic.

  • Visit Google tagmanager
  • Click on create account
  • Enter your account name, select country
  • Setup a container. Enter a container name and select the target platform
  • Click on create once you are done.
  • Agree to Google term and conditions by clicking.

You will be shown a snippet (a code) which you will copy and paste in the head tag of every page of your website.

Tips: if you use WordPress or blogger, you can simply paste the code in the head tag the website's theme. Instead of pasting it on every page of your website

Once you’ve set up a site tag manager, you can then create a Google analytic account,

How to set up google analytic

  • Visit Google analytic homepage
  • Click create account
  • Enter your account name. Select your website industry and preferred time zone.
  • Accept terms and conditions.

You will be given a tracking ID. This is the data that Google will use to track your website behaviour on Google analytic. The tracking id is a combination of your account number and property number; It looks like UA-000022-1. The first six numbers (000022) are your account number while the last one (1) is the property number.

Ensure you don’t share this data with anyone. The ID is personal to you alone.

Next step is to set up Google analytic tags for your business.

Here is how

  • Navigate to Google tag manager,
  • Click “Add a new tag”. You will be shown where you can create a new website tag. There are two areas you can customize on the page. They are: configuration and triggering
  • The configuration is where you will see all data collected while triggering contains the type of data you want to collect.
  • Select tag configuration and choose the type of data you want to track.
  • Go to settings in Google analytics
  • From the dropdown, select new variables
  • Enter your Google analytic tracking ID in the new window
  • Go to the triggering section; click on it
  • Select “all pages” then click on save
  • Once this is done you can now be receiving data about your website on google analytic.

How to Set goals in Google analytic

If you know the key performing indicator for your website or business, It’s good you tell google what your goals are. With Google analytic, this will be very easy.

  • Click on the admin button
  • Click on goals in the next window. You will be shown the goals dashboard. There you can create new goals for your website

How to link Google search console to Google analytic

  • Click on the "admin" button. You will be shown three columns
  • In the middle column, click "property settings."
  • Click on "adjust search console".
  • Click on "add" to add your website
  • Click on "add a site to search console". The name of your website.
  • Click "add" once you are done.

Follow up the screen direction to add the code given to you on your website.

Click save once you are done.

Note: data may not show up immediately on Google search console. You may have to check back to be sure it appears
