How to make an effective keyword research

It is pertinent to start off with a definition of what we wish to discuss. Keyword research is the process of finding words or phrases(also known as keywords) that people use in search engines in order to optimise content around and rank for those terms in search engines.

Keyword research impacts every other SEO task that you perform, including finding content topics, on -page-SEO, email outreach, and content promotions. Thus, keyword research is usually the first step of any SEO campaign.

Put differently, keywords are like a compass for your SEO campaigns: they tell you where to go and whether or not you are making any progress. Researching the keywords help you to understand the target audience by giving you insight into what customers are searching for and the exact words or phrases that they use. It is a market research for the twenty first century.

Though making effective keyword researches depends on the particular website one wishes to navigate, there is however certain pertinent steps that must be taken if desired results must be obtained accurately and in good time too. For the purpose of this discussion, we shall explain this procedure in a step after step process using a particular or specific example to guide us. We shall use a specialist hospital for this purpose. First, we must understand that getting any relevant result from this research must involve phrases or catch words that are very relevant in the website from which you wish to conduct the research.

In this case, the list of words may include such terms as the geographical area where the search is meant to address, then also the various types or specialities of these hospitals and finally the terms that are most commonly associated with specialist hospitals.

We, like I explained earlier on, shall do this in the following steps:

Step 1. Ensure a proper understanding of the geographical area.

In this step, you are required to target keyword phrases either locally, regionally or even on national levels.

Step 2. Mark out keywords based on your website contents.

Each specialist medical practice is known to have an abundance of a rich supply of keywords throughout the website. Words that hover around keyword phrases are deemed very relevant indeed by the search engine and will eventually help you out in the research.

Step 3. Employ the use of keyword suffix terms.

General words that may be used should concern the areas around your research. In this case, words like doctors, anaesthetics, ward attendants, gynaecologists, pediatricians, out patients' units, emergency wards and a host of others, but these examples should serve as a good guide since the words you choose eventually will depend on what you wish to research.

Step 4. Organise your search results.

You may use Excel for the purpose of collating and storing your search results. For this purpose, you may create the following column headerz: geographical area, practice specialities, intimate terms in common and regular use, merge adword, google search, uber and finally results. At this stage, you may insert your keywords compiled so far into your Excel document.

Step 5. Create keyword phrases.

Now that you have created a list containing your keywords, the next thing to do is to combine all of them to create keyword phrases. Basically, you are combining the keywords from the geographical area column with the keywords from the practice area columns and finally, the terms from the terms column.

An invaluable online tool to make this most effective is Mergewords with its three column field waiting for your input. Placing each of your keywords into one of Mergewords' columns in any order may most likely generate different results; you may get (GEOGRAPHICAL AREAS/PRACTICE DISCIPLINES/TERMS or even PRACTICE DISCIPLINES/TERMS/GEOGRAPHICAL AREAS and so on. These are results that are being sought in Google or you may, in the alternative find that nobody is searching for that particular keyword phrase.
Once you have added your keywords to Mergewords, click the 'Merge' button. Next, place the new keyword phrases into your Excel document under the column heading of MERGE.

Step 6. Check your keywords in Google Adword.

Next, take the newly merged keywords and find their value in Google using Google Adword. Note however, that Google Adword is another free online tool which determines if your keyword phrases are being sought after, thus signing into Google may save time. Nevertheless, you can research atleast one hundred keyword phrases at a time. Remember, searching keywords will save them so that you can download all of your choices at the end. You may also view 'Google suggest' list. Checking this will save time to a separate document. Adding all of your newly found results to your Excel document will help keep them all in one place.

Step 7. Follow up with Ubersuggest.

If, however after all this possible keyword choices, you will still like to pursue other suggestions, try using Ubersuggest. Adding a keyword here will take advantage of Google's own suggest tool and show you what searchers are typing into Google.
It is noteworthy that research results should best be saved and comparing such results over time will allow you to see what keywords worked and what keywords need work.

Conclusion

We have, as much as possible, regaled you on the necessary steps to a successful keyword research on any computer or internet platform, what remains for you to reap every possible dividends from this acquisition is the patient and methodical use of this knowledge for fast and accurate results. Like the popular saying claims, computers feed us what is always dependent on what input it receives from us; is that not another way of coining garbage in and so garbage out? Be sure to adopt these steps and you will most likely never falter in your researches.
